FLUX.3 Klein (official name FLUX 3 Image Klein) is the small, open-weight member of Black Forest Labs’ FLUX 3 family. One 5.6B model generates from text, edits a single image, combines up to 10 reference images and places elements with bounding boxes, at up to 4K.
It is cheap to run: about a cent per 1K image through the API, and an INT8 build fits an 8 GB graphics card. Its prompt expansion step rewrites short prompts into detailed ones, which is how it gets headlines and packaging text right from a one-line brief. Seedream 5.5 aims higher on text: small lines, several languages, and layouts that survive many rounds of edits.

Can I use FLUX.3 Klein commercially for free?
Yes, if you are an individual or your company makes less than $5 million a year. That is what the FLUX Kommunity License allows. Larger companies need a self-hosting license from Black Forest Labs or must use it through an API. Its outputs may not be used to train a competing model.
Is FLUX.3 Klein open source?
Its weights are open but gated: you accept the FLUX Kommunity License on Hugging Face to download them. That is an open-weight license with a revenue limit, not an open-source license like Apache 2.0.
Can FLUX.3 Klein edit images?
Yes. The same model edits from one image or up to 10 references and can move, resize or remove elements marked with boxes. On Seedream55 the generator is text-to-image for now; editing your own images is not open here yet, so use Black Forest Labs’ API or ComfyUI for edits.
What is the difference between FLUX.3 Klein and FLUX.2 Klein?
FLUX.3 Klein is one 5.6B model with built-in prompt expansion, up to 10 references, bounding boxes and 4K output, and it scores higher in Black Forest Labs’ tests. FLUX.2 Klein came in 4B and 9B; its 4B version is Apache 2.0, a looser license than FLUX.3 Klein’s.
Why does FLUX.3 Klein rewrite my prompt?
It was trained on long, detailed prompts, so Black Forest Labs pairs it with a prompt expansion model and asks users to keep it on. We do: write a short prompt and it is expanded before rendering, with quoted text kept as written.
Can I run FLUX.3 Klein on my own GPU?
Yes. ComfyUI supports it with four official templates, and an INT8 build runs on 8 GB graphics cards, though the prompt expansion model needs memory of its own. Seedream cannot be run locally.
Is Seedream55 affiliated with Black Forest Labs or ByteDance?
No. Seedream55 is an independent site. It runs FLUX.3 Klein, Seedream and the other models through their API providers, so you can compare them with one account and one credit balance.
